Cell Line Producing Fc Control Protein (Fc Portion of Human IgG)

Researchers at UCSF have created a stably transfected 293 cell line that produces soluble Fc protein (Fc portion of human IgG). The Fc protein produced by these cells is equivalent to the Fc protein frequently used as a protein tag in many chimeric proteins.

This Fc protein serves as the ideal control protein for any Fc-tagged recombinant protein that is used in any cell biological and functional study. This particular use of UCSF’s cell line would be of particular interest to those researchers that currently study Fc-tagged recombinant proteins and have no other alternative available but to heat-inactivate their Fc-tagged protein and use it as a ‘control’. Since the best control for any experiment using an Fc-tagged protein would be the Fc-protein itself, this Fc-producing cell line would be of interest to all researchers using Fc chimeric proteins.

This cell line has been successfully used as a control in several studies including those described in recent publications as listed below.
